AM I MY BROTHER'S KEEPER?

Every Friday I pick up two cheeseburgers, fries and a large coke from Macdonalds. It costs me $4.36.

I take it a mile down the road to a busy intersection. He is always there. It's his corner. I figure he is in his 40's but he looks like a 60 year old man who has had a hard life. His right foot looks like it was broken at the ankle and never set It's difficult for him to even walk.

I know he is homeless. He always has that backpack with everything he cherishes stuffed inside.

Both streets are very busy. I always honk and pulled to the side. He hobbles over as I roll the window down. Today I hand him the bag and drink. "God bless you ma'am. I can't tell you how hungry I am. Thank you so much." I always watch him take it back to where he was standing. He takes his time opening the bag and laying everything out.

I'm always amazed by his gratitude. $4.36. I probably misplace more than that in change every week.It reminds me to be grateful for every thing, large and small, that is in my life.

It is up to us to help the less fortunate. And there are oh so many in our country who do. Not the government. Not programs. US. Americans. It's part of our DNA.

Love your neighbor as yourself. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Are we our brothers' keeper? I think we are.

And there is just no better feeling than the joy of giving to someone you know can never do anything for you. Giving helps others but it helps the giver more.

You can never out give God. He will always return it. Shaken. Pressed down. And overflowing.

It takes so little to individually help someone who is less fortunate than we are. The blessings are overwhelming.

I challenge everyone to be a blessing to someone this week who just needs a little help.

THE THREE C’S OF LIFE

It's your CHOICE to take a CHANCE and make a CHANGE!

Are you wanting to get healthy and lose weight?

I'm not talking about 5 pounds or 10 pounds.   There comes a time when you just can't say "I'm thick", "I'm fluffy", "I'm a chunk monkey', etc.   We can spin it to others like it doesn't matter but WE know the truth.

We don't want to be fat, obese, morbidly obese, etc.  I know!  I've been them all and I'm still fat!

BUT....

I did make a choice to lose weight and get healthy.

I did take a chance by ordering Skinny Fiber and trying just one more time after I had promised myself that I would never ever try to lose weight again.

And I have made changes to become healthier.

Am I successful every day?  No!   Sometimes I do great for a week and then I stumble.

The difference is I just don't beat myself up over it any more and I don't quit!  That is the most important part of a weight loss program.

This is a journey you have to make because it is what you want.  You have to set small goals for yourself.  Down a size; buying a swimsuit.  Going dancing.  Riding a zipline.  Taking a cruise.  Going to a concert.   Taking a trip.  Learning to paint.  These are all things I have set for myself.  Reward yourself often with tangible things you want to try or do.   It does make a difference!!!

Where are you today?   Deciding to make a choice?  Considering taking a chance?  Or are you finally ready to make that change?

It's up to you.   It's your life.  Exist in it or live it.  What's your choice?

PLANNING & PREPARATON IS THE KEY

I'm going to tell you a secret about weight loss.   No, I haven't perfected it but I know it will help determine your success or lack of success.   At least it does for me.

You have to plan your food.  That's right!  You can't just wait till you are hungry to decide what to eat.  If you do, the chances are you will grab an unhealthy snack, go to a fast food place or eat more than you should.

Plan your meals for a week.
Make a grocery list around those meals.
Choose a day or an evening and prepare your breakfasts and your lunches for the week, especially  if you work.
Keep a drawer in your fridge that is just for your foods.  Let the kids and family have the rest of the fridge but that one drawer is YOURS!
Keep your fruits and cut up veggies there.  Have some extra protein servings there.  When you are hungry, go to your drawer.

When I don't plan that is when I fall off my food plan.

Now, I know a lot of people losing weight want everyone to think that everything is hunky dorey every day.  IT ISN'T!!  Yes there are times we eat unhealthy.  Yes, there are times we overeat.  Yes, we even gain a few pounds.  But we keep getting back on track instead of giving up.

I don't know anyone who doesn't mess up while losing weight.  No one.  If they don't admit it, well, they are in denial.  lol

That is why you need to plan.  Planning is the key to staying on your food plan!

As long as I have food for making my meals, prepare some of my meals for the entire work week and have my drawer stocked, I will stay on plan.  If I don't, I'm likely to be eating something that is unhealthy for me.   And for me that is carbs.  Lots and lots of carbs.

My weight loss stops.  My blood sugar rises.   I get fatigued.  I have no energy.

That 2 hours a week planning and preparing makes it so much easier.  I don't think about what I'm going to eat.  It's already determined.

So, now you know.  Planning and preparation is the key.  Give up a couple of hours of TV or internet or playing games.  Your body will thank you.  You'll feel better and you'll lose weight.

It works for me!

MY STORY

MY STORY

Most of us have a story to tell about our weight, our struggles and our hopes.

Between the second and third grade my abdomen grew exponentially to my body. I can remember sitting at my desk with my belly lying on my thighs.  I knew something wasn’t right.

Third grade was the first time I was put on a diet. It became an ongoing thing as long as I lived at home.  I was called fatty, fatso, etc. Yeah, those words hurt but no more so than hearing people say, “You have such a pretty face, but…..” Oh I knew what was came after that but….BUT YOU’RE FAT!

School was not a happy place. Home was not a happy place. I tried my best to blend into the walls and just not be noticed! Because when you are fat and you get into an argument or confrontation as a kid, you know the ultimate blow will be, “WELL YOU’RE FAT!”   Knock out!  There is nothing to say after that!

I was a sad girl who tried to get people to love me by giving gifts and making gifts.  I remember one Christmas I had been up until early morning finishing all the beautiful gifts I had made.  Ponchos, shawls, foot stools, trinket boxes, clothes, etc.  I went to bed after opening gifts and didn’t wake up until the meal was already being served.  As I walked into the dining room, I heard my brother say loudly, HURRY AND EAT, HERE COMES CARYN!  I don’t think I even ate that day, but I never forgot the words and they still sting 45 years later.

I began a journey to find that thin person that was locked away somewhere inside my body.  The things I have done to my body in the quest to overcome being fat.  Starvation (fasting 6 days a week and eating one day). Diet pills, every kind that was on the market.  Fad diets.  Weight Watchers.  Nutrisystem.  Counting calories.  Hynosis.  Experimental drugs that nearly killed me.  Even having my stomach stapled.  None of it worked long term.  Back in 1999 and 2000, I decided to eat clean and exercise. I lost about 100 pounds but I was exercising 6+ hours a day.  I wasn’t working then unless you count exercising! Lol

When I hit 60 I decided, I’M DONE!  No more trying to lose weight. No more depriving myself.  No more diets.  No more anything!  I’d just take my chances.

And then Skinny Fiber came along. I thought.  Ok, I’ll try it and if it doesn’t work, I’ll return it and get my money back.  Even though I’m a diabetic and have an almost non-existent thyroid, I have lost about 60 pounds in the past 18 months.  I’m thrilled to be off my blood pressure medicine,  arthritis medicine, and acid reflux medicine.  My thyroid dose has been decreased.  My fibromyalgia is about gone.  I’m on my way to losing more weight and getting to the size I want to be.  Even my dr. is amazed with my progress!

And I move my body!   Walking or jogging.  Dancing like a fool.   I’m moving my body like nobody is watching.  And if they are, in my mind they are all yelling, “YOU GO, GIRL!”

So what is your story with your weight? What struggles have you faced in the battle to lose weight? It doesn’t matter whether it is 10 pounds or 100 pounds, our struggles are the same.

And know this:   there is hope.   No matter how old or young you are.  No matter how fat you are.  No matter how little you are now moving.   There is hope.  I'm proof of it.

Help someone while you help yourself and share your own story.  Or just put it into words for yourself.  You will be glad you did.  I am.

WHO NEEDS A DAD ANYWAY?

WHO NEEDS A DAD ANYWAY?

WHO NEEDS A DAD ANYWAY?

I have watched our society continually view men as throw-away dads.  Have we reached a point in our evolution that men are nothing more than sperm donors for women?

It saddens me that the role and importance of a Dad in a child's life has become no more meaningful than material things that come and go.  Children need their fathers.  Boys learn to be men from their fathers.  Girls learn how to relate to men and how men should treat them from their fathers.

A loving and involved father is one of the greatest gifts a child can have.  The lessons a father teaches are through example, words and deeds. He is there to protect and console in a different way than a mom.  The presence of a father in the home has been shown to reduce the likelihood of a boy joining a gang in his teens or a girl becoming promiscuous.

If you want to know how children crave the attention of a father figure, do this exercise.  Go to your child's (grandchild's or nephew's) school and have lunch.  If you are a mom, join your husband in the exercise. You will experience the emptiness that some children have in their lives.  They will beg you to sit by them, hug them, hold them and talk to them.  The children in your own life will be proud to have you with them at lunch. However, you will see the difference in their reaction to you and that of children where no father is present in the home.

Who needs a Dad?  Every child.  Just ask them.

NOT EVERYONE IS GOING TO LIKE YOU

NOT EVERYONE IS GOING TO LIKE YOU

This is a tough pill to swallow no matter your age.  I experienced it as a child, a young adult and even as a senior.  It was true as much in my personal life as it was in my business life.

For whatever reason, some people are just not going to like you.  They don’t want to be your friend.  They don’t want to hang out with you.  They don’t want to talk to you.  And chances are, they won’t even interact with you.

It can be tough at times.   You meet someone and you admire something about them.  You might even think you have things in common.  You try to interact with them and they look through you like you aren’t there.  Others might tell you “she is so great!  You should get to know her.”  And you are thinking, “I have.  She completely ignored me on 4 (or 5 or 100) different occasions when I attempted to just talk to her.”

You know what you need to do?  Stop trying to please this person or even interact with them.  Not everyone is meant to be your friend or even in your life.

There are over a billion people on this planet.   Just because a few people are rude or plainly don’t want you in their life is just a blip on the screen.   Always go for quality over quantity.  There are plenty of people who will think you are the cat’s meow and better than a bag of chips!  These are the people you want in your life.

If someone acts like they are better than you, let them.   Really, who cares?  No one is worth your time who doesn’t make time for you.   Don’t waste your time calling people who don’t return your calls.  Don’t send messages to people who ignore yours.  Don’t try to hang out with people who make it very clear they aren’t interested.  Realize the truth and move on.  You can't miss a friendship you never had.

Surround yourself with people who not only like you but love you.   Find those who share common interests with you.   Cling to those who have proven their friendship.  You know the ones:  They can talk for hours about nothing.  You spend hours with them laughing.  If you need them at 2am, they are there for you just like you are there for them.

For all the others?  Let them go like water off a duck’s back.  Not everyone wants to be your friend.  Honor those who do and let the rest go.  When you can do that, you will have made peace and will be able to move on.

It’s a feeling of freedom like no other.  Trust me on that!

ARE YOU REALLY HUNGRY?

ARE YOU REALLY HUNGRY?

You know, sometimes I just don't know when I'm hungry or if I'm hungry.   To be honest, I don't think I've ever been hungry in my life but that is another story.

An hour or so ago, I started THINKING, "I'm hungry.  What could I eat low carb?"  Well, I have some sausage that I eat sometimes for breakfast.  I would have loved a bag of Cheetos.   And I could almost taste Tater Tots from Sonic.

Fortunately, I am not able to leave my office once I get here at 4 or 5 in the morning.

I have my lunch I could eat but it was only 1030 and I had already had my protein shake at 4am and my breakfast around 8.  Was I really hungry?

I looked in the cabinets and saw 4 boxes of oatmeal, some crystal light, and that was about it.   But then I saw two boxes of tea:  Pomegranate and Vanilla Chai.

One of my favorite drinks from Whole Foods is their Vanilla Chai.   It's not tea.  It tastes like my mother's egg custard.  I know...I'm wandering away from that hunger I thought I was feeling.  I must say a 16 ounce bottle of it will last me a week.  Just one swallow every day or two.   Yummmm

So I decided, let me try drinking some Vanilla Chai tea.   I made me a cup, added a little Sweet Leaf and returned to my desk.   It took me about an hour to finish it and you know what?

When I finished I wasn't hungry.  I wasn't feeling deprived.   I wasn't even thinking about food.

Am I the only one this happens to?   Sometimes I realize I am eating and I feel so full I'm miserable.

Day by day.  Step by step.  Always learning.

SHOULD I GO OR SHOULD I STAY?

SHOULD I GO OR SHOULD I STAY?

Ok, here goes.  This is a very hard and embarrassing thing to write.  I hope someone of you will understand how I am feeling.  But I am not going to lie to ya'll.  They say the truth will set you free.  I'm hoping by putting it in the light, it will help me.

I am struggling.  I'm frustrated.  I feel like a failure.  I have gained 10 pounds.   It goes down and comes back.  I admit I'm not eating the healthiest these days but I have gained 10 pounds in the past week.  I wore a pair of pants last Monday and they fit fine.  Saturday I tried them on and I couldn't even button them.

I've had this happen for 54 years.  The path of least resistance is to just give up.  Start overeating and just quit.  I hear those voices from the past over and over:  "What are you trying to do?  Gain 100 pounds?"   "Hurry and eat before she gets to the table."  "You're so pretty but......"   "It's so difficult to sew clothes for you."   "Your waist should be 24.  Your bust should be 36.  Your hips should be 36."  This is the one area of my life that I have consistently failed at.  And I learned at a very early age that for me, if I was fat I was unworthy.   Still fat.  Still unworthy.

I''ve never stayed on a weight loss program this long, 18 months.  I don't want to fail.  I want to reach my goal of being healthy and lean.  If I don't, I'm gonna die early.  I promised my daughter I wouldn't do that.  I want to see my kids get married and have children.

I know my body and nutrition better than anyone.  I know that low carb/high protein is what works best for me.  I know I have to exercise 4-5 times a week, every week.  It’s not a matter of IF I want to.  It’s a matter of HAVE to.

My choices are these:  give up, gain the weight back and die from complications of diabetes or get back on what works for me and accept that this is the way I must live.    I wouldn't let anyone pump my body full of penicillin because I know it would kill me.   I have to accept that I can't pump my body full of food, especially unhealthy food and lose weight, even more important, LIVE a long life.

I don't need pity.  I don't need to be told what I need to do.  I need support and encouragement.  If you are struggling on your weight loss journey or even starting one, join me.   Please.  I need your help.  And hopefully, you need mine.

DO YOU GET OVERWHELMED?

DO YOU GET OVERWHELMED?

Do you get overwhelmed?  I do.  Especially when it comes to my house.

Now I do fine running two companies.  Every day I go in and know exactly what I have to do.  I run down my list and get it all down by quitting time.

At home it is a different story.  I always start with good intentions and end up not getting much accomplished.  And then I feel like a failure.

Now, my house isn't dirty.  It's cluttered.  Not like a hoarder although I had one living in my house for awhile.  lol  I think the problem is I get overwhelmed.  And when I get overwhelmed, I just don't know where to start.  And that's where I get stuck.

Maybe it's that I just hate housework.  My daughter is a great house cleaner.  She can clean my entire house in a couple of hours.  I wish I was like that.  I have a friend and she is like a tornado cleaning her room and bathroom.  When we go out of town, before we leave she is saying "let me clean my room and bath before I leave."  And she does.  I'm satisfied with making my bed and leaving.  And I make my bed every morning and after taking a nap.

Once I reach that stage of being overwhelmed, I am just stuck like Chuck.  I feel like a spinning top rolling around on the floor and getting nowhere.  I know I'll never be one of those neat freaks.  That is not even a goal or wish.  What I would like is to just have a neat house where the clutter is minimum and I can find everything.

I've had this once in my life for 5 years.  That's when I had a cleaning lady come in once a week.  She did everything.  My laundry, my ironing, cleaned the entire house, vacuumed, mopped, cleaned the fridge and stove, cleaned the ceiling fans and blinds, dusted, etc.  I loved those 5 years.  And she did it all in 4 hours.

I was able to maintain that week to week.  Maybe I just need a cleaning lady or to find my Ana and bring her back.

Am I the only one with this problem?

THE RE-COMING OF AGE

THE RE-COMING OF AGE

1972.  I graduated from High School the year before.  My Daddy died in the fall.  I had spent a semester living at college.  I saved money over the summer and bought my first car.  It was a 1971 Brown Pinto.  Standard of course because only cool people drove standards and very few girls.  I could and I did.

The next couple of years were full of abandonment.   It was a time of sexual freedom.  Women didn’t fear pregnancy anymore.  We had the pill.  I didn’t know anyone who feared getting Venereal Diseases back then.  That’s what we called Sexually Transmitted Diseases.  We just called it VD.  I never knew anyone who caught VD.  I did hear of a few that caught the crabs but those were usually really nasty people.

I called that time the coming of age.  Yeah, those were some wild and wonderful days.  Then I met Jim, got married, and had a family.  When we divorced I had already gone through menopause.  I noticed occasionally that the hormones would flare up.  “Hey!  We are still here!  Just been sleeping!”

The last few weeks I’ve had that old familiar feeling.  Now when I was married I could just throw Jim down and have him.  Not really but I could at least get an oil change!

This is more intense.  I’m looking at all men finding something cute about each of them.  In person, commercials, online, everywhere.  I’m even seeing older men and thinking, “Not bad.”

I’m thinking the last two years of weight loss have done a major tune up and engine over-haul on my model.  Yes, I’m still that 1971 Pinto.  I need someone to test drive me.   And be careful!  You know if you hit a Pinto from behind, you might just start a fire.  Be warned!

STRUGGLING TO LOSE WEIGHT & GET HEALTHY?

STRUGGLING TO LOSE WEIGHT & GET HEALTHY?

Anyone who has battled being overweight knows that for the most part losing weight is a struggle.  We can go for a month, 6 months, even a year and then one morning we wake up and something inside of us is tired of not being able to eat what we want.

It seems so unfair.  Why can't I have breads, sweets, regular Dr. Pepper, or two servings of anything?  And then there is that skinny person who can eat 4000 calories a day, whose only exercise is walking to the kitchen to eat and they want to tell us what we need to do to lose weight.

Justifiable homicide, I tell ya!  Unless you have dealt with being overweight, you just don't understand how difficult the journey is.  And you should keep your helpful comments to yourself.  Encourage us but don’t criticize or try to give advice.  Please.

Think about it like this:  Take an alcoholic or drug addict.   Tell them:  Now, listen, you have to drink alcohol or your drug of choice every day.  BUT you can only have one drink or dose of your drug.  How many alcoholics or drug addicts do you think would be successful?

But that is what is expected and required of people trying to lose weight.  You have to eat to live.  You just can't eat like most everyone else.  I wish I could just never eat again.  That would be so much easier than dealing with my drug of choice every day:  FOOD.

I know.  I used to fast for 6 days and then eat on the 7th day.  I found that much easier to handle than the daily battle of food.  Of course, your body shuts down after a couple of weeks you go into starvation mode.  That means you aren't eating and you aren't losing.  That sucks worse than facing food every day.  I don’t mind depriving myself if there is a payoff but when there isn’t, well, that just doesn’t work for me!

It's not easy.  It isn't.  And anyone who tells you it is, is a big fat liar!  I struggle more often than I don't.  I fall down as much as I stand firm.  Some days I just want to give up!  Some days I do.  And then the next day or maybe 2 days later, I decide, again, that I don't want to stay fat and unhealthy.

It's ok to give in to the struggle.  We are human.  Take a break and then get back up on the horse.  Just know that there are millions of us out their facing the challenges daily.  We are your fellow warriors in the fight to lose weight and get healthy!  Come join our Weight Loss Support Group (see link below).  We are here to encourage and support one another!

ARE YOU WILLING TO DIE TO BE TAN?

ARE YOU WILLING TO DIE TO BE TAN?

Are you a sun worshipper?  If you are, you are putting your life in danger.

My father died of melanoma back in 1971.  5 years earlier he had a mole removed which was malignant.  Melanoma.  They removed all the lymph nodes around the affected area.

The end of May 1971 he had his 5 year check-up and was declared cancer free.  He was a survivor.  After 5 years, they say you are cured.  July 3 he got very sick and started throwing up.  He never threw up.  They next morning he saw his personal dr.  He did a chest X-ray and his lungs were metastasized.  He was immediately sent to MD Anderson in Houston.  They also found tumors in his bowels.  They found that the cancer wasn't in his lymph nodes but in his blood stream depositing cancerous cells along the path.

A week or so later, they discovered a brain tumor.  They decided to give him a treatment of chemotherapy, which was a brand new treatment.  And then they sent him home.  Two weeks later he was transported back to MD Anderson by ambulance.  The tumor had grown to the size of one 2 years old.

I took care of him the last month of his life.  I was with him 24/7.  He was a preacher and he lost his ability to communicate.  That's when he stopped talking.  I had to suction him out just so he could breathe.  It always terrified him.  He couldn't eat.  I would make Jello water and squirt it down the back of his throat.  The skin of his gums started to peel away.  I was so glad when the brain tumor grew through the pain center.  He had no control of his bowels.  He couldn't stand to have anything on his skin.  The last week of his life the tumors starting to grow under the top layer of his skin.  Little black dots that became little pointed lumps.

End of May, he was pronounced "cured" after 5 years cancer free.  July 5th, he was diagnosed again.  September 5, he was dead.  He was 45 years old.   I was only 18.  His weight had dropped from 180 to 120.  He looked like a little boy wearing his daddy’s suit.

He lived his life outside where his fair skin was burned over and over.  Please please please don't spend your time in the sun unprotected.  Just because your skin is dark or tans doesn't mean you are safe from melanoma.   The sun’s rays don't discriminate.  They just damage and destroy.

45 years young and gone.  At my age now I realize just how young he was.  You can prevent melanoma.  Put sunscreen on anytime you are in the sun.  The sun is not your friend unless you are protected.

Melanoma is a terrible way to die.  I can assure you that when you are in the casket not one person will say, "but doesn't she have a pretty tan."

If you go out in the sun, put on the sunscreen.  Do it in memory of my father, Clyde Ogden Moore.  You were taken way too soon, Daddy.

MOTHER’S LOVE IS LIKE NOTHING ELSE!

MOTHER’S LOVE IS LIKE NOTHING ELSE!

If you have children you know there are times when you didn't like them much (and they probably liked you less).  When I became a mom, I promised myself that no matter what, I would never let the bond with my child be broken.

No matter how mad or disappointed I was with them, I would never ever close the door and walk away.  I can tell you there were times it was hard but I'm glad I've always kept that cord attached.  There should never ever be a time that a mother's bond to her child is severed.  We are their moms.  No matter what, the door should always be open to our children.

Now, I'm not saying I'm was always a great mom or even a good one.  There were times (ok, years) that I thought I was the worst mom.  I didn't know what I was doing and I'm sure I did more wrong than right.  But I always loved them and never gave up.  And just like someone reminded me often during the dark times, "you have good kids.  They will be ok.  They will turn out just fine.   It just won't be for a few years."  She was right.  About it all.

If you don't have a relationship with your child, please consider making an effort.  It just takes a card, a phone call.  Doesn't mean you have to try to be where you once were.  It just means you let them know you love them.  No matter what.

What if your child, the one you loved from the time they were born, died today?  Or you found out they had a very short time to live?  How would you feel?  Life is short and fleeting.  If you haven't told your child you loved them lately, do it today.  If you are close enough to hug them, do it.

You may think you have a lot of time left because they are so much younger than you.  You never know.  Don't let another day go by.

Parents shouldn't have to bury their children.  It sucks.  But it happens.  Tell your child or children today that you love them no matter what.  Forgive them for whatever you feel they need to be forgiven for.   Just remember, they are your child.

To my friend who is having to face the reality of her child leaving this world, thank you for reminding me how precious an honor it is to be a mom.  My heart breaks for you but I know your child knows through his whole being that he is loved unconditionally throughout eternity by his mom.

Call your child.  Send that card.  Just three words:  I love you.

SO, YOU ATE TOO MUCH!

SO, YOU ATE TOO MUCH!

Let's talk about weight loss here.  You have a plan.  You are working it.  You are doing good.  Then the weekend comes.  Or you go out of town.  Or someone brings some goodies by.   You eat too much.  You eat something not on your plan.  What happens?

You feel like a failure!  YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!  YOU ARE HUMAN!  None of us are perfect.  We aren't going to be perfect on our weight loss journey.  There are going to be times we overeat.  Times we go off our plan, times we just want something we are trying to avoid.

So do we just give up?  Should we throw our hands up in the air and say, "I QUIT!  I'M A FAILURE!  I ALWAYS FAIL AT LOSING WEIGHT!"

No!  Just enjoy what you ate and when you go to sleep, LET IT GO!  Tomorrow is a new day.  You will wake up refreshed and re-focused.    Don’t wallow in a pool of self-pity.  Just pick yourself up and dust yourself off.  You hit a pot hole; not a 5 car pick-up.  At this point it is easy to get back on track.

Don't give up and don't beat yourself up.  It's not a sprint.  It's a marathon.  One meal will not sabotage your weight loss unless you let it.

FAILURE IS NOT PART OF MY VOCABULARY!!

FAILURE IS NOT PART OF MY VOCABULARY!!

We can learn a lot from babies!

We don't remember learning to walk.  Can you imagine just how hard that is for a baby?  First they have to actually pull themselves up to a standing position.

Remember seeing a baby wobble back and forth while they hold on to the edge of the coffee table?  We watch as they fall.  We want to catch them but we don't unless they are going to be hurt.  Over and over they fall and get back up.

Once they master just standing up right, they start moving around that table.   They realize that they can move!  It's amazing to watch this happen.   Before you know it, they are ready for the next step.

Soon they are letting go and trying to take that first step without holding on.  I know we have all held our arms out for a baby to walk to us.  I don't know whose eyes are lit up more:  the baby's or our own!

In a few short months, our baby has gone from rocking on their knees to standing, holding on to walk, letting go, walking and finally running!

Can you imagine if our babies decided after the first fall or two that they had failed and would never get up again?   Can you imagine your baby feeling like a failure who would never walk because they fell down a time or two?

Babies don't know failure.  We teach our children and ourselves failure.

Whatever your goal is at this particular time, view it like a baby.  Fun, exciting, keep trying.  Babies know they can learn to walk.  They see everyone around them walking.   Failure?  It isn't in their vocabulary or experience.

Look around you at the people doing or living the way you want to live.  Do you think their path has been any easier than the one you will have to travel?  Who cares how many times you fall?  Yes, sometimes, you will even get hurt.  Just like babies do.

All it takes is getting back up and trying again.  You may need a rest.  You may need to think about a better way to try.  The most important thing to remember is:  YOU CAN NEVER FAIL IF YOU GET BACK UP!

At the end of the day, if you have gotten off track for your goals, put it to bed.  Remind yourself of all the things you did right for the day.

Tomorrow is a new day.  A chance to start over.  Embrace it.  Every day is a new opportunity to focus and walk your path to your goal.  You are strong.  Be like that baby learning to walk.  They know only success!  Failure is not in their vocabulary.  Don't let it be a part of yours!
