ARE YOU REALLY HUNGRY?

ARE YOU REALLY HUNGRY?

You know, sometimes I just don't know when I'm hungry or if I'm hungry.   To be honest, I don't think I've ever been hungry in my life but that is another story.

An hour or so ago, I started THINKING, "I'm hungry.  What could I eat low carb?"  Well, I have some sausage that I eat sometimes for breakfast.  I would have loved a bag of Cheetos.   And I could almost taste Tater Tots from Sonic.

Fortunately, I am not able to leave my office once I get here at 4 or 5 in the morning.

I have my lunch I could eat but it was only 1030 and I had already had my protein shake at 4am and my breakfast around 8.  Was I really hungry?

I looked in the cabinets and saw 4 boxes of oatmeal, some crystal light, and that was about it.   But then I saw two boxes of tea:  Pomegranate and Vanilla Chai.

One of my favorite drinks from Whole Foods is their Vanilla Chai.   It's not tea.  It tastes like my mother's egg custard.  I know...I'm wandering away from that hunger I thought I was feeling.  I must say a 16 ounce bottle of it will last me a week.  Just one swallow every day or two.   Yummmm

So I decided, let me try drinking some Vanilla Chai tea.   I made me a cup, added a little Sweet Leaf and returned to my desk.   It took me about an hour to finish it and you know what?

When I finished I wasn't hungry.  I wasn't feeling deprived.   I wasn't even thinking about food.

Am I the only one this happens to?   Sometimes I realize I am eating and I feel so full I'm miserable.

Day by day.  Step by step.  Always learning.

SHOULD I GO OR SHOULD I STAY?

SHOULD I GO OR SHOULD I STAY?

Ok, here goes.  This is a very hard and embarrassing thing to write.  I hope someone of you will understand how I am feeling.  But I am not going to lie to ya'll.  They say the truth will set you free.  I'm hoping by putting it in the light, it will help me.

I am struggling.  I'm frustrated.  I feel like a failure.  I have gained 10 pounds.   It goes down and comes back.  I admit I'm not eating the healthiest these days but I have gained 10 pounds in the past week.  I wore a pair of pants last Monday and they fit fine.  Saturday I tried them on and I couldn't even button them.

I've had this happen for 54 years.  The path of least resistance is to just give up.  Start overeating and just quit.  I hear those voices from the past over and over:  "What are you trying to do?  Gain 100 pounds?"   "Hurry and eat before she gets to the table."  "You're so pretty but......"   "It's so difficult to sew clothes for you."   "Your waist should be 24.  Your bust should be 36.  Your hips should be 36."  This is the one area of my life that I have consistently failed at.  And I learned at a very early age that for me, if I was fat I was unworthy.   Still fat.  Still unworthy.

I''ve never stayed on a weight loss program this long, 18 months.  I don't want to fail.  I want to reach my goal of being healthy and lean.  If I don't, I'm gonna die early.  I promised my daughter I wouldn't do that.  I want to see my kids get married and have children.

I know my body and nutrition better than anyone.  I know that low carb/high protein is what works best for me.  I know I have to exercise 4-5 times a week, every week.  It’s not a matter of IF I want to.  It’s a matter of HAVE to.

My choices are these:  give up, gain the weight back and die from complications of diabetes or get back on what works for me and accept that this is the way I must live.    I wouldn't let anyone pump my body full of penicillin because I know it would kill me.   I have to accept that I can't pump my body full of food, especially unhealthy food and lose weight, even more important, LIVE a long life.

I don't need pity.  I don't need to be told what I need to do.  I need support and encouragement.  If you are struggling on your weight loss journey or even starting one, join me.   Please.  I need your help.  And hopefully, you need mine.

STRUGGLING TO LOSE WEIGHT & GET HEALTHY?

STRUGGLING TO LOSE WEIGHT & GET HEALTHY?

Anyone who has battled being overweight knows that for the most part losing weight is a struggle.  We can go for a month, 6 months, even a year and then one morning we wake up and something inside of us is tired of not being able to eat what we want.

It seems so unfair.  Why can't I have breads, sweets, regular Dr. Pepper, or two servings of anything?  And then there is that skinny person who can eat 4000 calories a day, whose only exercise is walking to the kitchen to eat and they want to tell us what we need to do to lose weight.

Justifiable homicide, I tell ya!  Unless you have dealt with being overweight, you just don't understand how difficult the journey is.  And you should keep your helpful comments to yourself.  Encourage us but don’t criticize or try to give advice.  Please.

Think about it like this:  Take an alcoholic or drug addict.   Tell them:  Now, listen, you have to drink alcohol or your drug of choice every day.  BUT you can only have one drink or dose of your drug.  How many alcoholics or drug addicts do you think would be successful?

But that is what is expected and required of people trying to lose weight.  You have to eat to live.  You just can't eat like most everyone else.  I wish I could just never eat again.  That would be so much easier than dealing with my drug of choice every day:  FOOD.

I know.  I used to fast for 6 days and then eat on the 7th day.  I found that much easier to handle than the daily battle of food.  Of course, your body shuts down after a couple of weeks you go into starvation mode.  That means you aren't eating and you aren't losing.  That sucks worse than facing food every day.  I don’t mind depriving myself if there is a payoff but when there isn’t, well, that just doesn’t work for me!

It's not easy.  It isn't.  And anyone who tells you it is, is a big fat liar!  I struggle more often than I don't.  I fall down as much as I stand firm.  Some days I just want to give up!  Some days I do.  And then the next day or maybe 2 days later, I decide, again, that I don't want to stay fat and unhealthy.

It's ok to give in to the struggle.  We are human.  Take a break and then get back up on the horse.  Just know that there are millions of us out their facing the challenges daily.  We are your fellow warriors in the fight to lose weight and get healthy!  Come join our Weight Loss Support Group (see link below).  We are here to encourage and support one another!

SO, YOU ATE TOO MUCH!

SO, YOU ATE TOO MUCH!

Let's talk about weight loss here.  You have a plan.  You are working it.  You are doing good.  Then the weekend comes.  Or you go out of town.  Or someone brings some goodies by.   You eat too much.  You eat something not on your plan.  What happens?

You feel like a failure!  YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!  YOU ARE HUMAN!  None of us are perfect.  We aren't going to be perfect on our weight loss journey.  There are going to be times we overeat.  Times we go off our plan, times we just want something we are trying to avoid.

So do we just give up?  Should we throw our hands up in the air and say, "I QUIT!  I'M A FAILURE!  I ALWAYS FAIL AT LOSING WEIGHT!"

No!  Just enjoy what you ate and when you go to sleep, LET IT GO!  Tomorrow is a new day.  You will wake up refreshed and re-focused.    Don’t wallow in a pool of self-pity.  Just pick yourself up and dust yourself off.  You hit a pot hole; not a 5 car pick-up.  At this point it is easy to get back on track.

Don't give up and don't beat yourself up.  It's not a sprint.  It's a marathon.  One meal will not sabotage your weight loss unless you let it.

PORTION SIZES

PORTION SIZES

Let's talk about portion control!  One of the main problems with being on a weight loss program is that we think we are eating less than we truly are.

This is the reason I have to portion my food out.  In my mind and my eyes I think 1 cup is a bowl full, which is usually 2-3 cups.  Get you a plastic container that holds one cup.   It's not a lot of food!  So let's say you fix hamburger helper for dinner.  If there are two of you, it should be enough for 2 meals!  I KNOW!  HOW CAN THAT BE????

Well, here's the deal.  When you eat that one cup of whatever, you should be adding things to it as sides.  Like a small salad.  Add some roasted, grilled, boiled or steamed veggies.  Throw in a piece of wheat bread and a bottle of water.  You will have a satisfying meal that is low on calories, and is portion controlled.

It's really the same for everything we eat.  Especially the stuff we just love to eat with no thought to the calories or portion size.  I tell you.  I have eaten a family size bag of chips in 2-3 settings.  When you check the servings per bag, it's like 10-15!   WHOA!  If I eat them all in the morning, I am way over the calorie count for the day.  And that's not even considering the carb content!

There truly is nothing most of us can't eat.  We just have to learn to do it in moderation.  That is very difficult for me.  I eat mindlessly.  Sometimes I don't think I even taste the food.  Sometimes I don't even particularly care for the food.  That's why I have to portion my food.

There is nothing wrong with candy, cake, cookies, etc.  You just have to say ONE cookie instead of a dozen!  Or ONE piece of fudge instead of 6 pieces and licking the pan too!

It's tough!  I know from my own experiences.  It's tough staying with portion control when some things taste so good you wish you could eat it all.  And I admit it, sometimes I have!

Make a promise to yourself to really find out what a portion size is for the things you put in your mouth.  And then for a week, stick to portion sizes and add healthy side dishes to complete and complement your meals.

I'm betting you will find what I have.  You lose weight when you do!

YES, I AM NOW A RUNNER!

YES, I AM NOW A RUNNER!

I'm back to my jogging schedule!  Last night it rained so I got up early and was out on my jog a little after 7.

I normally jog at about a level 3.  Level 3 is when your heart is pumping but you can still talk comfortably.  Today I decided to push harder.  Every block length or 2, I ran at a level 4 for 100 steps.  Level 4 is your heart really pumping and you can still talk but not comfortably.  I completed 8 or so of these Level 4 sections.

This is helping me increase my speed, work my heart harder and just uses more energy.  You know how I could tell I was moving faster?  My upper arms were flopping!  hahaha

So, I guess I can say I have moved up to actually RUNNING!  I don't know if I will run the 10K but I know I will run at least 1/2 of it!  And what an accomplishment for a 230+ pound, 61 year old woman who just started moving 3 months ago.  YES, IT HAS BEEN 3 MONTHS SINCE I STARTED JOGGING!  By Thanksgiving I will have 6 months under my belt!  WOO HOO!

THERE’S ALWAYS AN EXCUSE TO OVEREAT!

THERE’S ALWAYS AN EXCUSE TO OVEREAT!

I have been on this losing weight spinning wheel for 53 years.  My first diet was when I was 8 years old and in the third grade.  It doesn’t matter how it started or what caused it.  What matters is the damage that the extra weight has caused to me physically, emotionally and mentally.  At 61 I am finally figuring it out and learning how to change it to be lose weight, become healthy, and get fit.

I tell you this to let you know I have been there.  I have done it all.  I have tried everything to lose weight.  Just not the right way.  Whatever you are feeling, I have felt it.  Whatever you have been through, I have been there.  Whatever you wish for your life, I have shared those same wishes.  Whatever excuses you have made for not losing weight, I have made them and probably more.

Now, I’ll tell you.  I’ve never been a big eater at meals.  I’ve always eaten small portions and rarely had seconds.  But meals were not my downfall.  My downfall was those times alone, in my bedroom, with no one around.  I’m a secret eater.  Yeah, I’ve eaten 36 homemade cookies in a few hours and then made another batch so no one would know.  I’ve opened a pound of M&M’s and before I knew it the bag was empty.  I lied to myself.  Over and over.

And that was not the only problem.  I could always find an excuse to eat.  There is always one.  Someone hurt my feelings.  I’m mad.  I’m happy.  I’m sad.  I don’t have a man in my life.  I can’t stand the man in my life.  I wish I had children.  My children are driving me crazy.  Someone died.  I’m ugly.  I have pretty eyes.  I’ll start a diet after the holidays.  I’m having surgery.

Whatever you tell yourself to justify overeating, it’s just an excuse.  Really what it comes down to is that we think we deserve to stuff our faces no matter how many calories it is and no matter what the reason is.  Truly, we don’t have to have a reason or an excuse.  We just have to have some food available at the time.  And how many times have you gotten in your car (cause us fat people don’t walk) and driven to a fast food restaurant, an ice cream place or even the grocery store to pick up something that you could eat just because?  I have.  Too many 100’s of times to count.

And then, we wonder why we are fat.  Well, not really.  We know why we are fat but we choose to act like we don’t.   We know.  Deep down in that black hole we keep trying to fill with food, we know.   At some point when you are alone and quiet, you know the truth.

Each of us has to decide when we are tired of lying to ourselves and ready to face the truth.  For me that came when I started taking Skinny Fiber and began to lose weight.  The more I tweaked my food, the more I lost.  The more I moved, the more my body changed.  I decided to leave the excuses behind.  If I overeat on occasion I just admit it, forget it, and get back on my plan within 24 hours.  It isn’t the occasional overeating that’s the problem.  It’s the choosing to live there that is.

Decide for yourself if you have been making excuses to justify overeating and then trying to ignore the truth.  If you have you need to make peace with your decision or you need to decide to make a change.  If you want to change, contact me.  We can get healthy and lose weight together.  I’m living proof.

BUT I WANT TO EAT OUT

BUT I WANT TO EAT OUT!

We all do.  However, it is very difficult to eat out all the time and lose weight.  There are several reasons why and I’m gonna tell you what they are!  I have friends tell me how they want to lose weight and then they eat out 4-6 times a week and usually at unhealthy restaurants.  I’m sorry to be the one to tell but you will not lose weight.

First, you don’t know what goes in the food you eat at fast food places or even restaurants!  And you certainly don’t know how many calories you are consuming!  I heard just this morning that one of the burgers at Red Robin has 3500 calories!  3500 CALORIES!!!!  That is 2 ½ days for me in one meal!  No thanks!  A 4 piece steak finger basket at DQ has 1600 calories!  Go ahead and eat it if you must!  But realize you shouldn’t put another thing (but water) in your mouth until the following day!  Oh, and these totals don’t include a sugary drink!  Besides all the calories you consume, you are not going to feel good.  Most restaurants don’t use fresh whole foods.  I know I know!  There are a few who do but trust me they still have dishes with umpteen calories and you know those ooey gooey selections are the ones we fat people want!

When you are trying to lose weight you should eat at home for the most part and cook your meals for breakfast and lunch to take with you.  When you cook, you know what ingredients you are using.  You don’t have to guess about any secret ingredients that will wreck whatever eating program you are on.  Also when you cook at home, you can use whole foods.  Real foods.  Foods that aren’t processed and full of chemicals.  Food that your body naturally knows how to break down and digest.

The last thing is portion control.  Most meals at restaurants are not portioned for one meal.  When I do eat out, the first thing I do when my meal arrives is ask for a to-go box.  Then I take half the food and put it in the carton to take home.  I only eat half of what I ordered for my meal.  I might not know exactly how many calories are in the meal or what “extras” were added, but I know I have cut the calories by half!  Sometimes I actually get 3 meals out of their one serving!

Now, I admit it is much easier for me to do this since I started taking Skinny Fiber over a year ago because it helps me feel full faster.  However, I portion my breakfast and lunch servings when I cook them at home.  I don’t want to guess.  I want to know that when I eat a bowl of homemade chili for lunch it is only 1 cup.  And trust me that takes some getting used to!  Find you a container and fill it with 8 ounces.  I’m betting it’s not what you are used to eating.  I know I was shocked!

Eating is not supposed to be a sport to stuff ourselves until we are so miserable we can hardly walk!  It is to nourish our bodies and give us energy.  Staying away from restaurants and fast food places helps.  So does buying whole foods and cooking at home.

If you are truly serious about losing weight, start out by only eating what you prepare at home.  You’ll save money and lose weight!

STARVATION MODE

STARVATION MODE

If you are overweight, I bet at some point you have put your body in starvation mode.

Sometimes we think that the more we cut our calories, the more we will lose.  Well, you might lose in the beginning but it will just be water weight.  I know there are diets out there that have you on 500 or 800 calories a day!  They may give you weight loss short term but rarely long term.  Your body cannot function properly on so little fuel.  Imagine if you didn’t change your oil for a year.  How well do you think it would run?  How often do you think it would just stop running?  Your body is no different.

How many calories should you be eating to lose weight?  For women, you should eat 1200 to 1500 calories on average.  For men, the intake should be 1500 to 1900 calories a day.   After I had been on Skinny Fiber a few months and started limiting my carbs, I realized that some days I wasn’t even getting 1000 calories a day.   Now I pay much better attention to making sure I am at 1500 calories, especially with my jogging.

What happens when your body goes into starvation mode?
1.      Your blood pressure drops
2.      Your temperature drops
3.      Your heart rate drops
4.      Your body doesn’t just use fat for energy, it uses your muscles too.
Here is what happens when you starve yourself and go into starvation mode.   You start losing muscle instead of fat.  That is the worst!  When you start eating normally again (or overeating again) you will gain the weight back quickly and probably more than you lost!  But the worst thing is you will gain back FAT!  Even though you might not weigh more you will be fatter and look fatter.  Each time you do this exercise of starving, losing, and gaining back, you will be getting fatter and fatter every time you go through this scenario.  I know.  My body is a perfect example of this.

If you want to lose weight and keep it off for good, you have to eat.  Not overeat but eat!  You will lose more and keep it off if you eat whole foods.  Those are foods that have one ingredient:  cabbage, spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggs, chicken, beef, ham, etc.  No fillers, no additives, no chemicals.   Our bodies weren’t meant to run on junk or process chemicals and additives.    Now, I’m not saying that you should never eat junk food or something that isn’t a whole food.  However, that should be the exception and not the rule.

The other thing you must do to lose weight and keep it off is MOVE!  It doesn’t really matter what you do for exercise but you gotta move!  Walk, jog, run, dance, do jumping jacks, do some squats, roller blade, ice skate, ride your bike.   Do something that makes your heart race and causes you to sweat!  Sweat is your friend!  I read a quote the other day that I just love:  “Sweat is your fat crying!”  What a great way to look at it when you are moving and sweating!

Most addictions require the person to abstain from whatever the addiction is.  This is what is so difficult about losing weight.  You have to eat every day.  You have to fuel your body.  Overweight people are expected to eat every day but not too much.  Can you imagine if an alcoholic or drug addict or smoker were told that it was required of them to use their drug of choice everyday but just a little bit?

This is why being overweight is so difficult.  I know how difficult it is.  I’ve been overweight for 53 years.  It’s hard losing weight.  I’ve always said I wish I could just stop eating like I stopped smoking.  It would be so much easier for me to just give up food altogether.  But I can’t.  And neither can you.

We have to make our new mantra this:  I eat to live not live to eat.  When you can do that each day, you will get to your ultimate goal and stay there.  That is the pot of gold at the end of my last weight loss journey.  It can be yours too!

JUST 3 STEPS TO LOSE WEIGHT

JUST 3 STEPS TO LOSE WEIGHT

I hear many people say, “I’m going on vacation so I’m not going to take Skinny Fiber while I’m gone.”  This just confuses me.  Why would you stop taking it because you are going on vacation or to a party?  When you are using Skinny Fiber, you don’t have to diet.  There are no forbidden foods.  You can eat anything you like.  It will just aid you in refraining from overeating.

Anyone who has ever been on a cruise or talked to anyone who has been on a cruise knows that there is any kind of food you want 24 hours a day.  When I was on my cruise I took my Skinny Fiber just like a have done for the past year.  Two capsules twice a day.  I ate the most scrumptious things.  Tried dishes I had never tasted before.  And you know what happened?  I lost 6 pounds while I was cruising!

Why do we associate vacationing or partying with a license to stuff our faces to the point of misery?  Some of us (me included) have and do just eat without even realizing we are.  It’s not because we are hungry.  It’s not because we want it.  Sometimes we eat when we don’t even like the way it tastes.  I have come to the conclusion that for many of us, eating is not about filling our stomachs.  It is about filling that void, that black hole that never gets filled.  And food doesn’t fill it either.

If you decide to give Skinny Fiber a chance, please do this for me.  For 90 days, commit with everything you have to do these three things:
1.       Take two capsules of Skinny Fiber twice a day about an hour before you eat with 16 ounces of water.  Without fail.  Everyday.
2.      Drink half your body weight in water.  If you weigh 200 pounds, drink 100 ounces.  If you don’t do this, IT WILL NOT WORK.  If you drink 4 glasses of water a day, yes, your tummy will work.
3.      Eat until you get that feeling of “Yes, I’m starting to feel full.”  You aren’t looking for that feeling of “I’m so stuffed I feel like a sea lion laying on the beach!”
If you do these 3 things consistently for 90 days, you will have great results.  If you don’t do them, then you won’t.  It really is that simple.  The decision is yours!

I’m 61, had health issues and it worked for me.  It’s worked for 10’s of thousands.  It will work for you if you follow these 3 steps.  And if you want to amp it up, add exercise to it.

Ask yourself this:  Do I want to lose weight enough to do these 3 things?  Make that decision and then get on the winning team with the rest of us Skinny Fiber SUCCESS STORIES!  I’ll be with you every step of the way!

REFLECTIONS FROM MY GABRIEL IGLESIAS SHIRT!

REFLECTIONS FROM MY GABRIEL IGLESIAS SHIRT!

HOW COME I’M NOT LOSING WEIGHT QUICKER?

HOW COME I’M NOT LOSING WEIGHT QUICKER?

Shaun T
“Don't let the lack of fast results stress you out. Some people lose weight really fast and others take a little more time. Your heart is getting healthy and everything else will follow suit. Just be patient and stick with it.”

When we gain weight we don't realize the time it took to gain it.  When we want to lose weight, we want it to happen overnight!  It just doesn't work that way, unfortunately.

There are factors that determine how quickly you will lose weight:  Age, sex, hormones, thyroid activity, genetics, etc.  Now, these are not reasons to blame if you are eating anything and everything and then wondering why you aren't losing weight.

In the beginning you will lose weight faster.  That is normally water weight.  As you begin to attack the fat, it takes longer.  One pound equals 3500 calories.  To lose a pound a week, you need to cut 500 calories a day from your diet.  To lose 2 pounds a week, you would have to double that to 1000 calories a day less.  That is a lot of calories to cut each day and still maintain the minimum suggested!  If you cut 500 calories a day, in one year you will drop 52 pounds!  That’s a lot of weight to lose in one year!

The other thing that aids in losing weight is exercise.  Now if you think you can eat whatever you want and exercise 30 minutes a day, you are wrong wrong wrong.  If I jog for 30 min, I'll burn about 300-400 calories.  That would be about 1/2 pound in a week.  However, when you are exercising you build muscle.  Muscle doesn’t replace fat nor does it weigh more than fat.  A pound is a pound is a pound.  BUT muscle takes up less space than fat does in your body.  That’s why when you are exercising, you look smaller and your clothes get looser.

So if you are cutting your calories and exercising, you will see changes in your body even if you don't seem to be losing weight.  Why?  Because you are building muscle.  I haven't really lost any pounds (or so the scale says) since I started jogging 5 weeks ago.  But you should see how much smaller my legs are!  My thighs and calves are just shrinking as they build muscle.  Most all my pants look like Hammer Time pants now.  lol

Figure out how many calories you want to eliminate from your diet each day.  Do aerobic exercise AND weight bearing exercises.  Remember, that for women, even dieting you should eat 1200-1500 calories a day.  If you go below 1200 calories, your body will go into starvation mode and you will stop losing.  Men should eat 1700-2100 calories a day while losing weight.

When you hit times when the scale doesn't move, check your clothes.  Are the arms getting baggy?  Is your mid section shrinking?  Are your pant legs getting too big?  Is your butt beginning to disappear?  These are all indications that you are losing weight.

It took a long time to gain all the extra weight you are carrying.  It will take time to lose it.  The great thing about our bodies is that we can lose weight in less time than it normally takes to gain it.

Don't let a slow period or even a plateau halt your efforts to lose weight, exercise and get healthy.  If you keep doing it, it will happen.  Have a plan and be consistent.  That's the key.

YAKKITY YAK

YAKKITY YAK!

Do you have that inner voice that talks smack to you all the time?  You know the one.  It never has a kind word to say to you.  It knows all your shortcomings and failures.  And it is never shy about pointing them all out to you.

There was a time that I denied having an inner voice that was discouraging and a finger pointer.  Now I know that it wasn’t that one didn’t exist.  It was that I was so used to hearing it yakking at me, that I no longer could differentiate that voice from any other.

That voice told me I was fat and a failure.  How many times did I hear that voice telling me how I didn’t measure up and never would.  That voice could take a great conversation I had with a friend and convince me that there were hidden meanings.  It didn’t take much for me to believe the lies.

Yes, they were lies.  Everything that little but persistent voice said to me was a lie.  That voice never said, “Great job, Caryn!  You jogged a half a mile.”  No, this gnat of a voice would say, “I wouldn’t call what you do, jogging.  More like walking and not very fast at that!  You’ll never be a jogger!”  This voice would tell me how fat and ugly I was and that it would never be any different because I was a loser and a failure.

During the past year on my last weight loss journey with Skinny Fiber, I struggled when this little tyrant would start blabbering to me.  Sometimes I could ignore it; sometimes I couldn’t.  I remember one 24 hour period that I just couldn’t deal with it anymore.  I bought me 20 mini ice cream cones (I gave myself some points for not buying the regular size ice cream cones!  Lol) and I ate them all in that time.  Yeah, I felt disgusted.  Yep, I felt like a failure and a loser.  I thought “how can I convince people how great losing this weight is when I failed so miserably?”

Two things happened that day.  The first is I decided that the next day I would go back on my program and forget about the ice cream cones.  I also decided that day that I didn’t have to listen to the inner brat taunting me, accusing me and tearing me down.  I could just decide to block out the sound of that bull dozer voice.  It would be up to me from now on.

Since then I have done so much better.  First, if I want something sweet or gooey, I get one at a store where they sell them in singles.  Once it’s gone, it’s gone but I still have the satisfaction of having had some, just not lots and lots of it.  The second thing I did was to stop listening to that voice.  Oh, not only did it ridicule me and remind me of every failure, it would try to convince me that this weight loss journey was no different than any of the other hundreds I had been on.  It tried to convince me that boy am I going to be embarrassed when I fail, again, and all of facebook, my SBC family and people I don’t even know on social media realize I was a fraud, a failure, and worthless, again.

Not this time!  When I hear that voice trying to convince me that I shouldn’t exercise, I get proactive.  I might jog twice that day instead of once.  When it tells me what a failure I am, I look at the clothes I am now wearing…sizes 16 and a few 18’s.  That reminds me that the voice is a liar!  When it taunts me with “people are staring at you and making fun of you jogging”, I refuse to listen.  I get out my videos and look at my legs.  How strong they have become in such a short time and how they are starting to look like the legs of a runner.

I’m telling you this because I know I’m not the only one with that miserable little voice that would rather see you lying in a heap on the floor crying than to see you in charge of your life.  Mute the brat!  You don’t have to listen to it!  Write down examples of all the successes you have had in your life and especially now on your own last weight loss journey.

Do I still hear that cranky little troublemaker?  I do but not as often anymore.  You don’t have to either.  Decide to shut the noise down and live in a space where you revel in your successes and not your failures.
