THE MYSTERY OF THE TREE ROACH!
I know most people know what roaches are but I'm not sure
how many people outside Texas (and maybe other southern states) know what tree
roaches are. Tree roaches range in
length from over an inch to about 3 inches.
They are HUGE!
When I lived in East Texas we were always told they usually
were near the railroad tracks. Not true
in Houston. The worst thing about tree
roaches is they FLY! Like Spiders!
They don't want your food.
They want your water. They
usually crawl up your water pipes looking for water. If they don't find water, they die of
dehydration. We usually see them in the
heat of summer when there is little rain.
Currently, it seems Houston has decided to be Asia and it
feels like we are in the monsoon season!
It has been raining continually since Tuesday. Today the sun has peeked out but the cold has
replaced the rain. It's going to get
colder and probably more rain starting tomorrow. This gal is not a happy camper. I can do rain or cold but not both. But I digress.
This morning I go to the bathroom and there is a huge tree
roach. I'm thinking, "fella, I
think you are lost". He is walking
around in circles in my shower. I'm
thinking he is delirious from lack of water but how? I'm sure there is enough water in the pipes
(and certainly the yard) to store up reserves for oh, I don't know, 5 years?
I watch him for a few minutes to see if he is going to die
on his own. He looks pretty plump to
me. And then I notice something white
right above his big old tree roach head.
I go over and bend down and realize it is a little sign. On it is written, "I'm looking for
Noah's Ark. I'm the other tree roach."
And there you have it!
